Impact Memo
Southwood Veterinary Hospital is very concerned about trying to minimize the negative impact from the present political US environment. We are striving to utilize Canadian products and minimize tariffs impact. We do, however, recommend you do not interrupt your pet’s therapeutic diets as they were recommended to help control disease processes and extend your pet’s quality of life and longevity. See comments below and discuss with our staff or doctors to help guide your decisions:

Royal Canin
All Royal Canin’s DRY food is made in their Ontario factory, but the canned food is made at their South Dakota factory. Some dry foods are traded between the US and Canada depending on need. If you look at the back of the bag it will say Made in Canada or Made in the USA.
Hills / Science Diet
All Hills/Science Diet foods are made in the US factories, but some ingredients including GRAINS, PEAS and nutritional mixes come from Canada. Their packaging has raw materials sourced from Canada including plastic bags and aluminum. The integrated North America supply chain completes the manufacturing process out of their facilities in the US.
The money spent in Canada goes back to support the Hills Canada Food Shelter Love program and Canada Disaster Relief.

Purina
All Purina Diets are manufactured in the United States.
Good commercial pet +
grocery store foods
Good commercial pet + grocery store foods:
The foods in this category that claim to be 100% made in Canada are actually only prepared and packaged in Canada. To make adequate quality food requires the addition of components not available in Canada. Thus, food ingredients from other countries including the U.S. are needed to make the high-quality diets that you have come to expect for your pets.
